I started to lift weights my freshman year of Highschool. I had just joined the School’s football team, and I was a novice lifter. Their were many things that I had to learn, such as proper lifting techniques, different types of exercises, time intervals between sets, picking an appropriate weight, and how to warm up before lifting. As a Novice lifter all these things can be very difficult to understand at first, and they were for me. My sophomore year of highschool is when my personal fitness journey really began. I made a bet with one of my friends for $20 that I could get six-pack abs in a month, no one believed that I could do it considering that I was 20-25 lbs overweight, but I was determined. I started researching everything I could on what to eat, how to train, and everything in between. I started walking a mile to the gym after school everyday and would stay there for 2-3 hours until my mom picked me up from work. I was on a mission, and nothing could get in my way. After one month had passed it was time to show everyone if I got a six pack or not. We were all in P.E. class and we ran into the locker room. Everyone started chanting my name waiting for me to take my shirt off. When I took my shirt off everyone was extremely happy for me, I didn’t get the six pack, but I was very close. Ever since the beginning of that bet, fitness has been a huge part of my life. I go to the gym 6 days a week, and everyday I like to try and learn something new. Exercise is my way of relaxing and letting go steam, while also making my body healthier. I hope through these blogs that I can pass on my 7 years of experience in exercise and diet to help others through their fitness journeys.
